It's been a while--a long, long while--since I've posted last; and even then, it was to say whether the ColbyCam was up or not. Suffice it to say, I've been remiss of my duties. But, I'm back! Again!
We are in our new condo, now. And a sweet deal it was, too. They actually paid us to buy it! I know the housing market has slowed down considerably in California, but our deal was too good to be true. When we started looking at them, Colby was three weeks old. We stumbled across them almost by accident. We were driving home one day when I decided to take a little detour to check out some patio homes for sale. We got there around 5pm and they were closed, so we left. It wasn't that we thought we could afford them at $395,000, but I wanted to look anyway. As we left, we noticed a condo complex being built on the next block with signs 'Starting at $309,000 and went to check it out. Little did we know we would own one a year later.
After a whole-lot of hassle with financing issues with lenders going out of business and more, we finally got into an Acorn loan program giving us a 100% loan with only $500 required down. Plus, the builder was offering a 6% incentive and a major price reduction of our unit $45,000 in the year it took us to get in. As of March, escrow had closed, the incentive covered all closing costs and had enough left over to get window coverings for the whole place. We're home owners!
